Streaky Bay

Streaky Bay is aptly named, the sea has streaks of colour in it, it's due to oils given off by kelp growing within the bay itself. Mathew Flinders named the bay in 1802 but he thought the streaks were the result of river water flowing into the sea.

Smoky Bay

Smoky Bay is about 40 kilometres from Ceduna so it was our first stop for a look see. It's a small sleepy town where lots of fishing is done. Apparently the bay was named by Edward John Eyre as he stopped by on his way to Albany WA... the indigenous people lit lots of fires and the smoke hung about the bay, he said it was smoky and the name stuck!

I do not like heights but could not take my eyes away from these....

Here we come to the coast line and let me tell you it was hard to pick just a few photos, I just kept snapping away in between gasps... everyone should see this.. truely wonderful!

You can see flat land as far as the eye can see we played 'spot the tree' as we went along and the coast is rugged cliffs with plenty of viewing spots along the way, of course we drove down each one.. I can say it was definitely worth the drive and I'd do it again in a second... well these photos may not all be in order but are worth taking a look at. I know my kids have been dying to see them....

Crossing into South Australia

Now where were we, that's right, still on that road!!!! I take far too many photographs and they take such a long time to sort thro let alone re-size or brighten up a bit, some of them had to be because we got mainly clouds and rain along the way, some days were dreary as... that never took away from the pleasure of looking out of the window. Any way here are a few photos of our crossing....

A few more kilometres to go before we get to Pt Augusta

And the first thing we see as we crossed over was a dingo who looked at us as if to say... oh no! not more tourists!!! He just meandered away into the bush.
