A couple of pythons from the region

This is a black headed python, the average size is about 2 metres but they can grow to a maximun of 3.5m. The body is muscular with a flattneed profile and tapers to a thin point. They can be in shades of black and dark grey, gold and cream, and brown but thier heads are amazing, the color is black but oh so shiny, I found it hard to focus on with my camera. They are found in semi arid to humid tropical regions. They are territorial and often found in amongst rocks and dembris, if you come across one it may hiss loudly at you... they also swim really well. These are non-venomous but they like to kill and eat posionous snakes so if you are bitten by one you can get a secondary dose of venom if the last meal happened to be a venomous snake, my advice would be, do not pick one up!
The woma python grows to approx 1.5 metres to 3m long, although the ones in the Pilbra are a little smaller and they think thats due to thier diet. The head is narrow and the eyes are small, the body is broad, flattish and tapers to a thin point (tail). Colors range from pale brown to nearly black in some, but those in northern WA tend to have a cream to yellow background with orange-red to brown dorsal bands. They are nocturnal and during the day can be found in hollow logs or under leaf litter. The Woma Python eats mainly other reptiles, lizards or snakes, including many species of venomous snakes. It is immune to venomous snake bites. It is from the same genus as the black headed python. Another not to pick up just incase it's last meal happened to be a venomous snake.
