Old Onslow

If you ever go to Onslow you have to go visit old Onslow and camp there by the Ashburton river, it's really interesting to walk around and the river is a treat to camp next too. There are large bins for all your rubbish but nothing else, so you must take everything with you. It a place where you can literally park next to the bank, sit on your chair and throw in a line to fish! The banks are rather steep although we found a few spots to walk down. I loved the bird life there and took many photographs.
Old Onslow was originally established in 1885 during the gold rush, the old town later acted as a port town for pearling luggers following the discovery of pearls nearby. By 1925 the Ashburton River mouth had silted up causing access problems for the ships. As a result the town was moved fifteen minutes up the road.
Here are some of the pics I took.
